E-commerce

Wed, 07/28/2010 - 05:41

SSL Certificates were created to validate the genuineness of a web site because it is so easy to counterfeit a business on the web. In 1995, when they were invented, a standard SSL certs provided adequate protection for consumers. SSL certs secure your website and protect transactional data. Need a secure logon for your site or online store? SSL certs must be signed by a trusted authority or more commonly known as Certificate Authorities (CA). CA’s confirm your identity by adding their signature to your SSL certificates.SSL Certificates bind an identity to a pair of electronic keys that are used to encrypt and decipher digital information. A public key encrypts the information, whereas a private key decrypts the information.

Undefined offset:8192 and ereg() deprecation error.

Wed, 07/28/2010 - 01:27

Hi there,

I've recently taken quite an old site (drupal 5.11) off a production server to run on my local machine. I want to get it running so I can make the necessary upgrades/modifications necessary. I run a wampserver wamp stack, and have tried various php versions 5.2 through to 5.3 (namely .5.2.7, .8, .9), but still receive the following:

Notice: Undefined offset: 8192 in C:\wamp\www\sitename\includes\common.inc on line 561
Notice: Undefined offset: 8192 in C:\wamp\www\sitename\includes\common.inc on line 568

repeated many times, and then in red as a drupal warning:

: Function ereg() is deprecated in
C:\wamp\www\sitename\includes\file.inc on line 649.

many times.

The site has e-commerce ubercart package modules enabled.

Looking to be pointed in the right direction, if someone can help? Thanks.

Easyspace - getting a drupal site working

Tue, 07/20/2010 - 15:24

Hi All,

I recently had to upload a clients site to Easyspace (http://easyspace.com) which wasn't the best experience. Support seem pretty inept with first-line asking "what's a Drupal"? I got passed through to a technical engineer who wasn't much help and stated that even though he couldn't tell any differences between our site install and any other clients who had Drupal running - that they couldn't help me as they don't provide script support.

Anyway, I did a one-click install and compared the differences to get the client site working, here are the differences to hopefully save someone else some time! Note: the site did function, but without clean urls.

In the .htaccess file comment out
"Options +FollowSymLinks"
and place this below:
"Options +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch"

You will also want to set the rewrite base to /
"RewriteBase /"

The default php memory limit is set to 16M, where imagecache requires 96, you can add the following line after "# but the following cannot be changed at runtime."
"php_value memory_limit 96M"

Also the default maximum upload size the server will allow is 2MB, which I pushed to 8 with the following lines (again after "# but the following cannot be changed at runtime."):
"php_value upload_max_filesize 8M
php_value post_max_size 16M"

That's it!

Hosting frustrations with ixwebhosting -Looking for a new home.

Tue, 07/20/2010 - 06:44

Good Day,

I have had it with ixwebhosting. I can't do anything, everything slows down to a crawl and they tell me that there is nothing wrong with their servers and its my drupal installation. I have had it, STAY AWAY from IXWEBHOSTING! I will not recommend this company ever..

I need recommendation to a reliable Linux hosting in the US. Please reply only if you have been with the same provider for the last 3 - 4 years and would really back them up.

Thank you,

Mark

Drupal Sites Down - Server file system error

Mon, 07/19/2010 - 14:35

**** EDIT ***********

site is back up, we copied the files from an old repo and things are working smoothly.

something must have gotten left behind or corrupted

Hey everyone,

We're running two drupal installations on a voxel server, and last friday their machines were going haywire and eventually our file system ran into some trouble.

our entire /www folder was set to read-only, and now once were back up and running drupal spits out nothing but some debug text

i've tried (in private) chmod'ing everything to 0777 just to make sure it wasn't that, and also had to remove one of the previously working modules due to a conflicting of function names

does anyone have any insight as to why this message is the only thing that shows up when you load index.php?
$Id: nodequeue_generate.info,v 1.1.2.4 2008/05/28 18:00:47 merlinofchaos Exp $ name = Node Queue Generate description = Bulk assign nodes into queues for quickly populating a site. package = Development dependencies = nodequeue ; Information added by drupal.org packaging script on 2008-07-06 version = "5.x-2.2" project = "nodequeue" datestamp = "1215363016"

thanks for any help

What is the best way to upload Drupal files and database from a local MAMP server on a MacBook Pro to a VPS web server?

Fri, 07/16/2010 - 11:53

On a local MAMP server running on a MacBook Pro, I have installed a multi-site (multisite) configuration of Drupal 6.17. On a few of the sites I have performed a significant amount of development. After I purchase and configure a VPS web server I plan to upload the Drupal files, database and multisite configuration from the local MAMP server on the Mac to the VPS web server. How would one do this?

All I could find on the web discussing anything relevant was a Lullabot post which mentioned the Komodo IDE. Is Komodo or another IDE necessary to perform the upload? Is the upload straightforward? Are there any issues? ....

Background information:

I have decided to go with a Linode VPS.

My short list of VPS web host providers included Liquid Web, Linode, HostGator, HotDrupal, and Slicehost until just this morning. Based on reviews from the community, I narrowed the search down to Slicehost and Linode. By a hair, I've selected Linode. Before I make the final purchase I am looking to answer all the big questions. Even though management of an unmanaged server will require significant quantities of time and effort, I figure that the additional control and flexibility will be worth it.

Thank you for your help.

Using GoDaddy but hosting it at home. Port Problem

Fri, 07/16/2010 - 04:12

I have a domain I purchased though GoDaddy.com (http://domainBBB.com). I configured my home server to run drupal on port 81. How do I get my domain http://domainBBB.com to point to my home server on port 81?

I already have a different GoDaddy domain (http://domainAAA.com) pointing to the default port 80 and it works. I'm able to load http://domainAAA.com and it loads my pages from my home server.

I have checked my router's port forwarding and it works (meaning http://xx.xx.xxx.xxx:81 loads up the proper Apache VirtualHost directory).

I just don't know where in GoDaddy's panel that I configure it to point to a different port.

Any help is appreciated.

How can i solve this

My website address has /drupal after it?

Mon, 07/12/2010 - 02:37

Hi,

Can I just say that I am a complete novice - I have never built a website before and therefore I know little or nothing about jargon littered around.

This is probably going to be a really stupid question, particularly given I don't even know the correct terms to use when describing. Added to that, I'm not even sure if my question is in the appropriate topic. (Appologies if its not)

I'll try my best to explain the problem;

I am using hosting provider HaaBi.
I access the control panel through https://supremecenter15.co.uk/members/
Within that, I have an are called File Manager. (Nothing has been installed on my PC)
In file manager I have folders www/'mydomainname'.com/drupal

I had a choice of Web builders which they install through the control panel.
I chose Drupal, and Haabi's 'Elefante free scripts' seems to have installed drupal into the above folder.

The problem with this is, when I navigate to 'mydomainname'.com I get the page - 'Index of/ with a drupal folder in it
Therefore my site can only be accessed via www.'mydomainname'.com/drupal
Obviously this is not ideal, and I just want to access my site via www.'mydomainname'.com

In Habbi file manager I moved all of the drupal folder contents into 'mydomainname' folder which worked in terms of being able to access my built site via www.'mydomainname'.com.

Drupal 7 Hosting Cookbook

Sun, 07/11/2010 - 18:56

We've been building up a LAMP stack lately based on Ubuntu Server 10.04 to host Drupal 7 in our datacenter. While there are a number of excellent manuals and tutorials out there, we noticed that very few provide a complete guide to building a Drupal-specific hosting environment, from bare metal up, that is suitable for production use. So... we took a whack at writing one: Drupal 7 Hosting Cookbook.

This guide is by no means exhaustive, but we wanted to share our current work with the community in the hope that others might benefit. In turn, we would love input and advice from experts in the community to help make this cookbook better.

Cheers,
Greg

.htaccess file is affecting my other websites on Godaddy

Thu, 07/08/2010 - 20:21

Hello,

My first website was built using Drupal, and is currently hosted through Godaddy http://engagebooks.ca. The website works fine, however I am running into difficulties with my other sites. I tried uploading a new website to my server on Godaddy, using iWeb, but I am getting a 500 Internal Server error when I go to the site. When I called Godaddy they said that it's my Drupal .htaccess file that is affecting my iWeb website. The new website will work if you enter http://mattycox.com/Matty_Cox/Welcome.html but not if you enter http://mattycox.com. When Godaddy deleted my .htaccess file, the iWeb website worked perfectly, but my Drupal site stopped working, so I asked them to put the .htaccess file back up. Godaddy said I would have to either edit my .htaccess file, or add a new .htaccess file to my iWeb website. I'm not sure how to do this, or if it's even possible? My only other option is to open a new hosting account for $6.99 a month, for my non-Drupal websites. And insight would be greatly appreciated.

Someone recommended that I upload a new .htaccess file mattycox.com 's home directory. But this did not work... Any other thoughts? Do I have to edit my route .htaccess file (the one that allows the engagebooks.ca website to function?)

Thanks,

Alexis
